Sovereign Hill - a step back in time

Today our Year 5's spent today at Sovereign Hill and we will go back tomorrow to continue this great experience. We are studying 'gold' and how it shaped our country.
We are so lucky to have this living museum on our doorstep.

We can experience what life was like back in the 1850's and how hard school was and how so very different it is compared today.

The supply cupboard is so different to ours back at school.
My desk while here is certainly different.

When we arrived we were whisked off to get dressed in our 'costume'.
Wearing pantaloons, neck kerchiefs is a different experience for our kids.
For our girls it even meant wearing our hair in a different style.
As an adult I get to wear a hoop skirt, have my haired tied back. It takes a bit to get dressed and the mud on the bottom of your dress is hard to get used to.

We were part of three of the five schools at Sovereign Hill.
The tourists that visit the park want to take photos of us and we had to remember to keep in character and reply by saying 'yes ma'am' and 'yes sir'.

Handwriting using copperplate was on the agenda, we got to use old fashioned ink pens.

Play time existed of old fashioned toys and our kids loved them and had a great time.

Later on in the day the girls did some needlework while the boys did some technical drawing.

Tomorrow we need to be able to recite our 16 times tables and pay our school fees.
Come and check out my post tomorrow to see how we went.
