We love to have our students get the right book at the right time. Putting labels on their books helps with identifying which book to use. There are three sizes and two printing versions available. The black and white version can be copied onto colored card for a third printing option.

Thursday - Taming the Wild

Hello again - yes I am joining up with this linky again to share how I manage behaviour.

 

This is a tricky one for me as I don't have photos to share.

 

I have tried very hard over the years to work from a positive place rather than a negative one. Sometimes, with some kids you need to look really hard to catch that positive moment. But hey, that is our job!

 

I have worked is schools where a "Code of Conduct" is sent home each month and if your record is perfect - you get to participate in a grade treat. House points as a school work well for yard behaviour and with older kids, but 5 year olds don't get it. I have worked in schools where a clipboard is used and crosses put against names and all we did was focus on negatives. I hated it! I have used a Traffic Light system and this worked and kids tried so hard to stay on green.

 

But this is what I do now..........

 

At the beginning of the year - like day one, moment one I talk about what is expected. Because I use Daily 5 there are anchor charts about each part and these impact greatly on learning behaviours.

 

When you are re-inforcing what is expected - we stop when the learning behaviour is not acceptable. Model what is incorrect and correct.  I try hard to notice positives - but the big game changer is POINT OF NEED TEACHING AND LEARNING

 

I have found if the program is right for each child there are very little spot fires and much more focus on the work rather than the behaviour.
