A focus on writing

Oh my!

A before and an after photo.

I have been concerned about the writing my children were not doing in Daily 5 and 'Work on Writing'.

I reflected on what they saw as prompts and wanted to push them to do better and be motivated with increased stamina.

So I removed some stuff - re arranged some stuff to create a better space.

So I put the story wheel up on the wall - they can spin the wheel and write about a character - setting - plot. They love it, today we wrote about a zebra, in a backyard that wanted to play with you.

There is a new chart on what to do as part of the writing process. This will be in my TPT store on the weekend so follow me and you will know when it is there.

There are also prompts for writing genres and we had a great discussion about what types of writing we could do.

Graphics Melonheadz and Scrappin Doodles

I have had so many requests for my English Planner that incorporates Daily 5 - so I will put that up in my TPT store on the weekend.

Thanks to all my followers who are also pinning my stuff - I really do appreciate your support.

Tomorrow I have four staff visiting from another school in our region to see how Daily 5 looks in my room.

I used to work with this group as a regional based coach and I am nervous about them seeing me in my new 'habitat'.

Stay tuned for how it went.

Have a great week

Our special visitor

I have a post that is not school related.

My daughter is in Year 10 and doing Year 11 VCE Japanese.

So at the moment we have an exchange student staying with us from Japan and we are enjoying sharing the things we do - eat and have.

Our food is very different to what she is used to.

We had a lamb roast on her first night - can't do more Australian than that.

We have had fish and yes they have even had McDonalds after a shopping trip.

We have taken her shopping and looking at what is in our supermarket - she loves strawberries.

The school has taken them to Sovereign Hill and we have taken her to the Wildlife Park.

Our koalas, kangaroos and wombats had her fascinated.

She has loved going to school with our daughter and we will miss her when she goes home on Sunday.

Tomorrow they go to Halls Gap, walking and sight seeing.

On the weekend we will take her to Melbourne to go shopping.

Robyn came to visit

Robyn is a grandmother to one of my Prep boys and she came to visit and work with us to explore lines in art with pastels.
The Preps had so much fun exploring words to describe the movement of the pastels.
They came up with twisting, turning, smudging, angry.....
they then got to make their own marks and can't wait to try their new skills in Discovery Learning.
How exciting are their efforts.

Cover really blown....

I blogged recently about my cover being blown with a parent. I had an email from a parent on our School Council who has a sister in Tasmania - who wants to visit and check my real space out. After checking with my Principal, my visitor from Tasmania is most welcome to visit.
We have had student-parent-teacher interviews this week and I have also had two more parents tell me they check out my blog.
