2D shapes

Last week we revised what makes a triangle, circle, rectangle and square.

We used attribute blocks to look at the number of sides and corners.

We used different words like corners, points, lines, edges.

Then made connections between each shape that were similar and different.

Orally we brainstormed where each shape could be found in our environment.

We turned the shape into something and talked about what the shape is, how we turned it into a new object.

The children then dictated a sentence to go with it before I hung them up.

They were very inventive and did lots of talking about the drawings and shapes.

When our parents have been in the room they have loved them too.

Next step - 3D shapes

Patty pan patterns

Pretty patty pan patterns. Most of my Preps have got the two colored patterns, some tried successfully and did three colours correctly. This skill is important as they need to see patterns with colour before they can see patterns with numbers.
We also did this task to consolidate the sound that 'p' makes.
What sort of tasks do you do to teach patterns?

Art Show for MoneySmart

What a raging success! We all produced an art piece and had it displayed in our Art Show.

We have been trialling MoneySmart and how to fundraise. We decided to fundraise for our Art Room and it seemed logical to have an Art Show.

We made posters, invitations and publicised in our newsletter. Pictures were priced at a gold coin donation and we have raised $119. Our Preps were excited to count the money using skip counting and were keen to do clever counting.

We have learnt about how we fundraise, what we do when we fundraise, what is a worthy cause and what happens to the money. In this learnng journey we looked at paid and unpaid work as well. Tomorrow we present to the school community what we have done and can celebrate our success.

We made our parents giggle when we collected the money in our toy cash registers.
