Halloween packs

Pumpkins, bats, dress ups, spiders and candy - what more could you want?

I would so love to be decorating for Halloween - the history of this is one of superstition and celebration - see this link for more information on the history

You see in Australia we don't acknowledge this, although there is a growing number of people doing a little 'trick or treat' door to door. 

So the next best thing is to design some work for others to use. 

My Spider Math and Spider Writing are also in a Spider Bundle all in one pack. The Pumpkin Writing and Reading Pack and Going Batty are not Halloween packs but could be used during this time.

A new word wall...

I was thinking of brightening up a word wall in our learning space.

 

The ones I have been using are at least 10 years old and not even worthy of a photo to share.

 

So I was working on this and it is so nice and bright.

 

I have made it in three sizes, so if you purchase it, you can use the size that best fits your space.

Gathering evidence of learning

We are in day 2 of 3 of assessment gathering. I have had one on one time with 15 of my students so far and we have counted teddies, ordered numbers, matched collections, looked at what comes before and after, location words, estimation, counting up and back, subitising and measuring in Mathematics.

We have done a read and retell, sound and letter identification, rhyming words, beginning and ending sounds, one to one matching, patterns, reading, writing, oral language and all in one hour. I do have to admit I am a bit over 'Clever Max'.

The next task is to process the data and to plan for teaching and learning. I am part of the coaching group that will support staff to do this early next week. 

I teach Prep and I am also the Leading Teacher for Curriculum as well as one of the school coaches. We have 547 students, 24 classes,  in our school and I track all our students. We have had an incredible journey in a very short 18 months. This is a great place to work. 

New Year's Eve Unit

Even though school in Australia is done for the next five and a bit weeks- I thought I would post this unit I have been working on. It has Mathematics tasks and English Tasks, 10 in all. Your students can organise numbers 0-12, as they need to be able to do this to have a sense of number before they can tell time. Make a clock and draw a clock, put times in a sequence and then match them to digital times, plus sequence them and then record what you might do on New Year's Eve. English tasks include making some resolutions, compiling a shopping list, creating an invitation and then completing a recount. Here is the cover and a sneak preview of what is in the Unit. Have a great Christmas everyone and a safe New Year. I will be enjoying being with family and doing some jobs around the house that have been neglected. I can't wait to see my own kids reaction to presents on Christmas morning.
