 This Wizard Of Oz – Literacy Pack is an excellent way to explore language, have shared experiences and look at character, setting and plot development. 

 It contains the following tasks-

Word Wall – add to this as you move through the unit. It is great for early writers to check the spelling of words. 

  Vocabulary Cards– to sort into various categories or use as a word wall 

KWHL– record what you know, want to know, how you will find this out and new learning that takes places 

Word Splashes– record words or phrases about each character. Great for display to motivate writers to write

David Walliams - Love him!

My team teaching buddy - Stacey, has instilled a love of David Walliams in our kids and me!

I was walking through a shop today and saw this little treasure and just had to buy it.

This is him and what was our first shared read this year. 

As grown ups - you may recognise him from Little Britain - a funny show that borders on the ridiculous and often naughty skits. 

But back to his books - kids love them, they are well written and do have twists and turns, kids that do amazing things, naughty things and win over the evil adults. 

If you haven't read any of them - please do so, you won't be sorry and your grade will love you. 

If you cannot find me tomorrow - I will be in a cosy place - reading my new book.

This app is free - yes free!

I just wanted to share this as I can see so many uses in my classroom. 

Kids can all log in and use them for Guided Reading or Reciprocal Reading, shared texts and independent reading too. 

There are so many books on it and the quality of them is high, the text is meaningful, kids love them and it is easy to navigate. 

So I registered and found I can register my grade and track what they read 

The guest icon allows me to see all the books I wanted to see. 

You can narrow your list or choose all categories.

The welcome page is clear and again easy to navigate.

I then selected a book and the Shark book caught my eye. 

Some books have a button to click so that it is read to you. 

Revisions and square covers...

As my daughter is studying for the exams that will complete her life at Secondary School and help her to get into University, we find ourselves at home for this two week break. 

So I have taken this self imposed 'staycation' to revise some old products and add square covers to my store. 

Firstly square covers - why? Well they make my packs all look better and my store front looks branded. So no matter what - landscape or portrait the covers are now all the same size. 

Another advantage for me is that I get to do what I love and muck around with clip art, papers and fonts.

Revisions - well, these I have been putting off for over a year. 

This is just a few I have made over with new fonts, papers and clip art. 

This pack went from about 30 pages to 133! Once I started it just kept getting bigger. 

My list is getting shorter...

Retail therapy

Today (apart from this blog) I have taken a break from work - well sort of.

My daughter wanted to go to the shops and we needed to finalise one last purchase for Father's Day (in Australia it is this Sunday- tomorrow for us)

But in true Shaw shopping style we got side tracked and not only did my daughter spend up big so did I!

I did buy some books (more books - earlier this week I blogged about some other book purchases)

 

But today I also bought some clothes - 2 dresses, 1 cardigan, 3 tops (one is a flesh colour and didn't really show in the photo).My daughter thought it was great as they are not all black!

Sometimes you just need to shop.

Maths Book Linky

Now - what books do I choose, how long can the post be, oh my!!!!!!!!!

These first two books are the best for teaching location. The characters go up, around, down, over and are amazing for location words.

When I read these books we get out all sorts of objects and make the story come to life. Can you see the little bear moving through the 3D book. I restrict it to an A3 page that way they need to fit it in and make it concise.

Next up are the counting to 10 and friends of ten books. Edwina helps us predict how many out of ten eggs will be girls and boys and we practise writing equations for them. I have a stack more and maybe should do a separate post for these.  

Now here is one of my favourite authors - Dayle Ann Dodds. These books are great for division, multiplication and fractions. I just love them. Kids love the tasks associated with them and often get clarity around the three concepts they contain.

I have saved one of my all time favourites until last. This book is great for skip counting and place value. If 1 is a snail - 4 is a dog, the legs are used to represent numbers. Pretty cool
